Sushi at the Suzuki Supper Club

Written by

One of the most interesting meals I've had in Bury St Edmunds for a long time. A sushi supper at Kaori and Guy Dawsons house. I'd been invited as part of a family birthday party, so we filled the table for six which overlooks the kitchen and where Kaori cooked our dinner from scratch. While she cooked we watched and chatted to her husband Guy. This is Japanese food at its best, it's light and fresh, Sushi is only served at this supper club on a Wednesday or Saturday when Kaori gets her fresh fish from the market. We ate raw scallops, prawns and tuna. Kaori kept making food and we kept eating. We had Edamane, Renkon Chips, Tofu Salad, Japanese Omelette, Runner Bean Tempura, Nigiri and Hoso-maki sushi with scallops, tuna and prawns. Sashimi scallops and tuna. Miso Soup. Caramel Banana Ice Cream and Tea, not to mention the Sake and Japanese beer. Go!

Breakfast in Hesset

Written by

The place for a fresh local farmhouse breakfast on Saturday September 2nd will be the Heath Farm farm pop-up at Hesset village hall. We went to one last Saturday and had a tasty sausage bap (£3) and home-made sausage rolls (£2.50) cooked on the spot. You can have a full English breakfast with eggs laid that day, and a lamb and tzatziki-slaw bap for brunch too - from a small but tasty menu of locally produced meat which is also for sale on the day.

G & Tea

Written by

2016 was a boom year for gin and the appetite for it seems to continue to grow. On 17th & 18th March the Long Melford Swan is holding a ‘Celebration of Gin’ weekend which sounds just up our street. It kicks off with a pop up bar on Friday from 6-9pm created by Williams Chase & Fever-Tree Tonic. A gin expert will be on hand to create a perfect G&T by using a variety of garnishes and flavours. The celebration continues on Saturday 18th March, with a gin masterclass and a carefully paired afternoon tea. Led by Hayman’s Distillers, the afternoon will include a tasting experience to explore the wide range of flavours in the nations favourite spirit. Tickets for the pop up gin bar are £5 per head which includes the first drink. The gin masterclass and afternoon tea is £32 per head. Spaces are limited so booking is essential. Baking and Blackthorpe Barn

Written by

With the help of my amazing niece Afiya Frank (pictured) I'm in full swing with my Little House of Cooking Cafe. For those of you that don't know I get stuck in for a couple of months from the end of October until Christmas running the cafe during the Christmas Festival at Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham. It's been so busy, baking madly with no time to blog and hardly time to sleep. Come and visit us if you get time, we are open from 10am until 4pm everyday up until and including 22nd December. It's not just cakes, we serve a very good Welsh Rarebit too!

Phoebe Rivers Cripps was at the Suffolk Show this year - and will bring her food truck to your event. I tried a very nice longhorn beef chilli.

At the arty Alde Valley Spring Festival we found Henrietta's Pop-up Patisserie which was tucked away inside White House Farm at Great Glemham. Tea and cake for two cost £6. Wow!
